The Business Mum
Meet Claire...
‘The Business Mum’ came about whilst I was on maternity leave with my first daughter.
I was desperate for a way to be able to be super present as a mum but to also have financial independence with a career that both excited me and had clear progression.
I was called greedy for wanting to have both, it seems most women have to choose between career success and raising a young family.
It’s been amazing to blow that theory out of the water!
I graduated from university with a first class degree and continued my career in secondary education, which I loved. I married Gary and quickly after fell pregnant with our first daughter Bella.
When she was just 8 weeks old I started to panic about what life would look life after my maternity leave. Childcare was so expensive, it seemed to make sense to return part time. With this I worried career progression opportunities would be limited and would continue to be if we wanted more children.
I felt I would be going to work to be with other peoples children whilst I paid a heavy price for someone to have the privilege of looking after mine!
You could say I was desperate!
Looking outside of education felt scary because that’s what I knew, however I had been shown a small amount of information about a business months prior. I decided to explore this option fully. Gosh, I’m so glad I did.
This time what I saw was a way to be a full time mum and have a successful career with my own business. I would be able to work in the nooks and crannies of my day and instead of watching tv or scrolling social media in the evenings I could put time into a business, my new business!
I was petrified and excited all at the same time.
In January 2014 I was a brand new mum with an 8 week old baby who had just started a business. People thought I was crazy! I set to work, became the best student, committed to the activity to replace my education salary and in just 6 months achieved exactly that.
With a new found confidence and lots of personal development I had created a stable secure income from my new business and I made the decision to leave my career completely in June 2014. Proving to myself and others that actually, you can have both!
Now a busy mum to our three girls, Bella (9), Sadie (7) and Minnie (5) I have enjoyed the satisfaction of business success and the fulfilment of bringing the girls up myself.
We have moved home, travelled lots as a family with my business and certainly enjoyed a great work life balance and life with a bit more style to it than my education career income would have afforded us.
Over the last 9 years I have had the pleasure of helping other women to develop businesses with my support. Some looking for an extra income around their existing commitments, some wanting to top up a part time income flexibility around their job and families and others, like myself to develop career style incomes affording them a better work life balance without having to compromise lifestyle.
I’m so passionate about helping others and take a huge amount of pride in my role as a business coach, holding new business owners hands so that they can see the success they’re looking for.
Success looks different to everyone and so a tailor made plan is designed to suit their goals, current lifestyle, personality and commitments.
I’ve a question for you…
If your life stays exactly as it is right now, is that ok?
If the answer to that question is ‘no’ then we should chat!
